So we need winter tires for the FiST. Being that I am from Hawaii, I know nothing about winter tires. Any recommendations? I should probably get some for the Evo, too, but hopefully we take delivery of the Fiesta soon and then my baby can stay warm and salt-free in the garage for the remainder of winter.

I've used Blizzaks on my Mustang and Taurus. They really saved my ass more than once.

Get some cheap black steelies and spend about $100 or less a tire. You really need not spend tons on winter tires, unless you want to.

TireRack has user reviews, so read and find a brand/tire you like.

My family was a Michelin family through and through until we discovered marangoni 4 ice+ tires. best freaking winter tire ever.

it was a little pricey, but they last )5 years on ours right now, about to be changed due to age. tread is still strong)

and they grip like hell (our FWD Audi A3 TDI out performs my moms AWD lexus IS250 on x-ice2 tires in the winter)

cons: you fuel econ will drop a bit. we lost .4l/100km in the audi
and they are loud tires.
not sure how easy they are to find. we got ours from the audi dealership.

but WELL worth it for the grip and longevity.

I've had my studdable General Altimax Arctic's for two seasons now, and they've been spectacular. Traction is great, ride quality is good, and they've proven to be the best tires for launching - even when compared to my Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

They show no wear after over 20K of driving.

I cannot recommend a tire more than this one.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 is the best tyre I've ever had on snow and ice, but it's not that great on wet roads though.

All I gotta say is GOOD LUCK. Most popular sizes and tired are sold out by early November.

But anything cheap and winter rated should do you fine, so long as you're not trying to cross mountain passes in a blizzard.

The problem with Blizzaks though is they come out with a new one every year (50,60,70,80 probably be out with a 90 next season), and they last a long time. So if you ever have to replace one, chances are you're going to end up with a mixed set.

I've got blizzak ws80's on my subaru outback and they are just too good for words on that car. I'm on year three with the blizzak ws70's on my mazda 3 and it will still get up the hill pretty well when it is snow and ice covered. I cross shopped Les Schwab and I didn't feel their house brand or Toyo snow tires were as good and cost exactly the same as the ws80's from our local subaru dealer.
